  • Producing great scholarship requires more than writing grammatically correct sentences. I ensure that your ideas are conveyed precisely and concisely, with strong, consistent argumentation. I am keenly attuned to terminological nuance, and strive to make your writing interesting and engaging while preserving your unique voice as a scholar.

Because I edit for meaning, I am able to build true partnerships with clients and help them develop manuscripts across multiple revisions. I add value by:

    • Reorganizing content to strengthen arguments

    • Restructuring sentences and paragraphs to ensure ideas are conveyed precisely

    • Preserving or re-introducing nuance that can be flattened or eliminated in AI-generated text

    • Aligning content across sections of a manuscript or book

    • Developing precise, symmetrical labels for theoretical concepts and ensuring terminological consistency

    • Engaging deeply with data to ensure the text accurately represents the evidence

    • Creating an engaging and interesting narrative while preserving a scholar’s unique voice

    • Ensuring congruence between response letters and revised manuscripts

  • First impressions matter: if a manuscript doesn’t look right, many reviewers are inclined assume that it has other flaws. I add value by ensuring that manuscripts fully conform to the standards of a target journal or publisher. In addition to formatting headings, citations, references, and back matter, I ensure that articles comply with word count limits.

    • Apply expertise in Microsoft Word, including advanced functions (e.g., creating an automatically populating table of contents, formatting footnotes, creating tables with proper structures and formatting). I have a keen eye for inconsistent spacing, margins, and fonts (e.g., Times New Roman vs. Times; 11-point vs. 12-point; 1.5 vs. double spacing)

    • Leverage fully internalized knowledge of APA 7th Edition, including formatting conventions for citations, references, headings, tables and figures, and language (e.g., first-person pronouns, active voice)

    • Routinely cut manuscript lengths by 20% or more by streamlining language and eliminating redundancy, without sacrificing content or nuance

    • Cross-check citations against references

    • Ensure all manuscript elements align with the standards of a target journal or publisher

  • Many scholars struggle with data presentation. Often, tables and figures are overly complex, messy, and difficult to interpret. Leveraging a deep understanding of the material that comes from editing for meaning, I reimagine tables and figures to convey information clearly and concisely.

    • Optimize layouts to maximize interpretability

    • Simplify formatting to increase readability

    • Leverage expertise in Microsoft Word to present the same information in less space

    • Ensure all data reported in the text aligns with the back matter and vice versa

    • Reimagine figures to better represent findings and theoretical insights and implement changes in PowerPoint

  • My services extend far beyond editing manuscripts. Over the last two decades, clients have asked me to apply my skills in novel ways. Examples include:

    • Delivering thesis writing seminars for graduate students

    • Leading grant writing workshops for professors

    • Drafting book chapters and other deliverables based on raw interview transcripts

    • Synthesizing multiple research outputs to create annual reports for funding agencies

    • Testing AI simulations for use in the classroom and suggesting ways to optimize characters’ responses

    • Reimagining and restructuring the findings for a paper that lost momentum

    • Partnering with a university to review and optimize grant proposals

If you think I might be able to add value, please reach out! I am happy to collaborate on a wide variety of tasks.

  • To attract funding, a research project or program must be framed in a compelling way. A grant proposal must clearly and concisely explicate how research will address urgent problems and/or meaningfully contribute to society. Given the space constraints of most funding applications, crafting a strong narrative can be difficult. I have partnered with scholars and university administrators to develop grant proposals that have secured millions from major funding agencies, including:

  • Getting a job in academia or going up for tenure or promotion can be a very stressful experience. Most universities require extensive application packages amounting to dozens, if not hundreds of pages. In today’s competitive market, nothing should be left to chance. I apply my keen eye for detail to harmonize the language and formatting across components of job application materials and tenure and promotion packages, including:

    • CVs

    • Statements of purpose

    • Teaching statements

    • Service statements

    • Cover letters

    • Other supporting materials
